Andy Gershon Bio

Andy Gershon is a self taught photographer and artist. His diverse body of work has been exhibited in solo shows in New York City (Castor Gallery), Los Angeles (Kopeikin Gallery) and Kansas City (Weinberger Fine Art). His photography is held in private collections in Los Angeles, Aspen, Carrboro, Miami, and New York and corporate collections in Kansas City, New York and Washington D.C.

Having worked in music his entire adult life, Gershon was surrounded by creatives that helped shape his artistic work and output.  Influenced deeply his whole life by music, combined with the subjects of personal interests, emotions, and experiences, Gershon creates work that is constantly shifting and moving, like the way a symphony or epic rock classic is written.  But instead of instruments, the creation comes from the lens of a camera, the software of a computer, or the canvas, brush and paints.

Gershon discovered and signed The Smashing Pumpkins and was a partner in a Joint Venture with Geffen Records in the 1990s, with artists ranging from The Crystal Method to Whiskeytown (Ryan Adams) to Days of The New.  Gershon also produced the soundtrack to Wim Wenders "End of Violence" film.  In the 2000s, Gershon signed and worked with artists ranging fromThe White Stripes to Moby to Toots & The Mytals, as well as being nominated for a Grammy for the soundtrack "I Am Sam".  Gershon also worked with video pioneers, OK Go, on their visually boundary breaking videos of the 2010s, resulting in 13 Canne Lions awards.  He currently is a professor at Syracuse University in the Setnor School of Music and splits his time between Syracuse and New York City.
